Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Huq has said the government would honour the civilians who have not yet got recognition nationally for their glorious contribution to the War of Liberation.
"A chapter like the War of Liberation comes only once for a nation. Many can become prime minister, president or high official, however there is no scope for them to become freedom fighters," he said.
The minister came up with the observations while speaking as the chief guest at the triennial council of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Nou Command Association (BMNCA) at CIRDAP auditorium in the capital, BSS reports.
"Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman never bowed before anybody. His daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina too never did it, and by holding the January 5 election, she has proven that foreign diplomats cannot run our country," Mozammel said.
Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan addressed the function as the main speaker. Presided over by BMNCA chairman Dr Alauddin Ahmed, the function was addressed by BMNCA leaders Habibul Haque Khokon and Syed Ahmed Majumder, among others.
