Villagers’ clash kills 1 in Sirajganj

A person has been killed in a clash between two groups of villagers at Shahzadpur upazila in Sirajganj on Friday morning.

Twenty others have been also injured in the clash.

The deceased was identified as Robiul Islam, 32, son of Mozibur Rahman of Bashra village under Shahzadpur upazila.  

Md Hassan Shamim Ikbal, officer-in-charge of Shahzadpur police station, quoting the locals said there was a longstanding conflict between Gangor and Bepari Goshthi at Bashra village following local influence and land-feud.  

On Friday morning, both villagers’ group equipped with lethal and locally-made weapons attacked on each other, leaving Robiul dead on the spot.

The injured were admitted to Shahzadpur upazila health complex and Sirajganj general hospital.

Police later controlled the tense situation as well as the clash.

Police recovered the body in the afternoon and sent it to Sirajganj general hospital for autopsy.

No case was lodged till writing the report at 5.30pm.

OC Shamim Ikbal said relatives of Robiul were preparing to lodge a case in this matter.  

However, additional forces were also deployed in the village to avoid further clash.
