Aslamul: The affidavit was mistakenly written

Aslamul Haque, the ruling Awami League member of parliament from Dhaka, has said that he had committed mistakes regarding the ownership of his properties in the affidavit that was placed before the Election Commission for vying at the 10th parliamentary poll.

Emerging from the ACC office after the lawmaker was interrogated by the ACC officials for the source of his wealth.

He said that his ownership of the land came through a ‘power of attorney’ but he could not specify who assigned him that ‘power of attorney’.

“My income tax advisor made the mistake and wrote 145 acres of land in place of 1.45 acres,” he said.

However, when the reporters asked him who assigned him the power of attorney and why he has not submitted a correction at the Election Commission, a group of 15-20 followers of the MP assaulted the journalists and in the meantime, the lawmaker left the area with guarded by his party men.

However, the lawmaker has said sorry to the reporters for the behavior that was made by his followers and has requested the reporters not to publish reports on any politician, without having proper information against the politician.

According to the affidavit placed before the Election Commission, Aslam had just over six acres of land five years ago which has now turned to 145 acres of land.

On January 12, ACC launched probes into the allegations of “unusual wealth” accumulation of seven political individuals, which included Aslamul Haque.
