'Tarique letter' is fake

The letter that is said to have been written by a British member of parliament inquiring about BNP Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman has been binned as false.

On Tuesday, Dhaka Tribune obtained a letter said to have been written by Mid Bedfordshire MP Dorries to Jeremy Hunt, UK secretary of state for health.

The letter inquired whether or not Tarique Rahman, the elder son of Khaleda Zia, was fit on health grounds to return to Bangladesh.

Dhaka Tribune contacted the Conservative Party MP Nadine Dorries regarding the authenticity of the letter on Tuesday.

In reply to the mail, the office of MP Nadine Dorries referred to a “Nadine’s blog” and said “somebody has faked the letter about Bangladesh, using as a template the letter about Group B Strep.”

“I’m sorry but Nadine absolutely did NOT write the text of the letter about Tarique Rahman,” the mail said.

Tarique Rahman is currently living in the United Kingdom facing over a dozen cases, including those regarding the August 21 grenade attack, at home.

He has been living in London since his release on parole by the High Court on September, 2008, during the term of a previous caretaker government.

Dhaka Tribune had published a report on the fake letter on Tuesday, however later revoked it.
