PDB proposes 15.50% power price hike

The Power Development Board (PDB) has proposed a 15.50% raise of retail power tariff rates.

The state-owned electricity distribution company made the proposal at the public hearing on power tariff hike in the capital on Tuesday morning.

The public hearing begin at 10:30am at Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) meeting room.

Earlier last week, state-owned five electricity distribution companies -- Power Development Board (PDB), Rural Electrification Board (REB), the West Zone Power Distribution Company Limited, the Dhaka Electric Supply Company Limited (DESCO) and the Dhaka Power Distribution Company Limited (DPDC) -- submitted their respective proposals as per decision of the government to raise retail power tariff from 8.59% to 23.50%.

They also urged the BERC to make the proposed rates effective from March 1.

The hearing for West Zone Company would be held in the afternoon while for DPDC and DESCO on March 5 and REB on March 6.
