The upcoming, highly anticipated Biblically-based Hollywood movie Noah, starring Russell Crowe, Emma Watson and other top actors, has come under close scrutiny by those in some religious circles. It has been questioned just how Biblically based a big-budget Hollywood film could be in the 21st century. However, many others in the Christian community welcome the retelling of the Genesis story for a modern audience.
At the recent National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) in Nashville, Dr Jerry A Johnson, President & CEO of NRB led a panel discussion about the movie, and they encouraged Paramount to add an explanatory message to future marketing materials for the upcoming film. Paramount welcomed the idea

The film is inspired by the story of Noah. While artistic license has been taken, we believe that this film is true to the essence, values, and integrity of a story that is a cornerstone of faith for millions of people worldwide. The biblical story of Noah can be found in the book of Genesis.
Dr Johnson is positive about the new movie. He said that because of the quality of the production and acting, viewers will enjoy watching main themes from the Noah story depicted in a powerful way on the big screen. However, it was his intent to reach out to Paramount with this request to make sure everyone who sees this impactful film knows this is an imaginative interpretation of Scripture, and not literal.
