Govt revises television licence fees

The government has revised the fees for licences of privately owned televisions in the country, what an information ministry handout said on Thursday.

Licensing of black-and-white televisions will cost Tk600, Tk1,500 for upto 21 inch coloured televisions, and Tk1,800 for those exceeding 21 inches.

LCD or LED televisions upto 21 inch in height will have to be licensed at Tk1,800 and those LCD's or LED's up to 36 inch will cost Tk2,400. License for those exceeding this limit will cost Tk3,000.

According to regulations, a television has to be licensed for ownership.

The government has introduced a one-time licensing facility for easing out the hassle regarding renewal of these licenses.

Users yet to obtain licence are being allowed a “special facility” under which they need to submit licence fee (plus 15% VAT) and receipt of the television purchase to any branch of Janata Bank Limited.

The government has requested all to license private televisions immediately.
