Bulbul Academy of Fine Arts (BAFA) arranged a classical music festival on February 27 at the institution’s premises in Waizghat, Dhaka. It was the second festival of its type organised by BAFA. The program started with a welcome speech by Shamsuzzaman Nur, president of the organisation and Md Hasnur Rahman Bachchu, general secretary of BAFA (Bulbul Academy of Fine Arts). The festival was inaugurated by Advocate Md Sadullah, a veteran musician and ex-general secretary of BAFA.
Many popular and seasoned singer of the classical music arena of the country presented outstanding performances to the audience present at the night-long event which started at 8pm in the evening and continued till early hours of the morning.
Renowned sitar player Reenat Fauzia captivated the audience by playing Mohan Kauns. Mir Naqibul Islam accompanied the artiste on tabla. Reenat Fauzia was born in 1967. She belongs to the legendary Khan family rooted in Shibpur, Brahmanbaria. She is the grandchild of Ustad Ayet Ali Khan, the legendary maestro of music of the subcontinent, youngest brother of Sursamrat Ustad Alauddin Khan, the world famous maestro of the genre.
Following Reenat’s performance, singers Yakub Ali Khan and Yousuf Ali khan rendered a duet performance. Then, one by one prominent classical singers including Dr Harun-ur Rashid, Dr Pradip Kumar Nandi, Zamim Imam Khan, Shahedur Reza, Aloke Sen and Abu Sayeed performed individual classical songs.
