The casting of votes in six centres of Barisal Sadar Upazila has been suspended due to “some irregularities.”
While making the announcement, the Sadar upazila returning officer Dulal Talukder said: “Despite of a peaceful voting, the district election office has postponed the casting of votes in six polling centres in the Sadar upazila due to some irregularities.”
He said polling in six centres out of 66 has been suspended till further notice.
The centres are Tilak-Kaladema, Lakutia Government Primary school, Purba Bilbo Bari Madrasa, Karnakathi Gausia Rahmania High School, Chandpura Union High School and Chandpura Union Primary School.
Earlier in the day, the district BNP has boycotted the election and called a day-long hartal for Sunday in metropolitan city and Sadar upazila.
City BNP President and central BNP Organising Secretary Advocate Mojibor Rahman Sarwar declared the hartal in a press conference around 11:15am on Thursday.
Mojibor Rahman Sarwar alleged that city Awami League and Chhatra League presidents along with the other members of the parties took control over almost all the 66 vote centres at the beginning of the poll.
