Mahmud Ali, Nazrul sworn into the cabinet

Two new ministers have been sworn-in at the cabinet on Wednesday expanding the size of the cabinet two months into the formation of the new government.

AH Mahmud Ali, the foreign minister for the interim government ahead of January 5 national poll, and Narsinghdi 1 MP Nazrul Islam have been sworn-in.

Dinajpur 4 MP Mahmud Ali has been added to the cabinet as a minister and Nazrul Islam a state minister. Their portfolios will be distributed later.

President Abdul Hamid administered the oath in presence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Bangabhaban on Wednesday. Cabinet Secretary M Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan conducted the swearing-in.

AH Mahmud Ali will be retained as the minister for foreign affairs, a high official of the cabinet division told the Dhaka Tribune in the afternoon.

Nazrul Islam, after swearing-in, told the media that he was appointed as the junior minister for water resources.

The 49-member cabinet of the new Awami Legue government was formed after January 5 national poll with three from the main opposition Jatiya Party.

However, the portfolios for the ministers at the offices of home affairs and foreign affairs remained vacant.
