The High Court has ordered to halt the upazila election in Bogra’s Shibganj upazila, which was scheduled to be held on Thursday.
A HC bench passed the order on Wednesday morning after the people of Majihotto union filed a writ with the court, demanding their election be held together with Dupchachia upzila.
Returning Officer Khorshed Alam confirmed about the order to the Dhaka Tribune.
He said: “All the preparation for the upazila election has already been completed, so the government is likely to face financial loss.”
“We have started the process of vacating the polling centres as per the rules and we hope the work will be completed by 12pm [Wednesday],” he added.
