Police raise bounty on snatched JMB militants

The police authorities have increased the amount of bounty from Tk two lakh to five lakh for capturing each of the two top JMB leaders who have fled away after they  were hijacked from a prison van.

Talking to the Dhaka Tribune, Qumrul Ahsan, senior information officer at the Police Headquarters, confirmed the increase in the bounty amount on Monday.

He said: “Tk five lakh will be rewarded to any who will be able to capture or will help in the arrest of any of those two JMB leaders, who are also the convicts.”

Earlier on Sunday evening, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Dhaka Range Police Mahfujul Huq Nuruzzaman, had announced Tk two lakh as the bounty against three JMB men who escaped in the morning in Trishal of Mymensingh district.

Apart from death row convict Salehin and life sentence awarded Boma Mizan, another death row convict Rakib Hasan Rasel also escaped in the hijacking, leaving a policeman killed and two others injured in an attack with guns and bombs when the JMB leaders were being taken to Mymensingh from jails in Gazipur.

However, he was recaptured within six hours after the hijacking.

Meanwhile, Rasel was killed in a ‘gunfight’ between police and a gang of criminals in Mirjapur of Tangail early on Monday.
