Separate clashes injure 12 in capital

Some 12 people have been injuries in two separate incidents of clashes in the capital’s Kadomtoli and Azampur areas on Saturday.

A total of 10 people were injured in a clash between the supporters of Jatiya Party lawmaker of Dhaka-4 constituency Syed Abu Hossain Babla and former Awami League lawmaker Sanjida Khanam over the establishment of supremacy in Balurmath of Kadomtoli.

The injured people were admitted to different local hospitals and clinics.

Police detained two suspected criminals in connection with the clash at Kadomtoli. A pistol and two rounds of ammunition were also recovered from their possessions.

They were identified as Md Raqibul Islam alias Shaon, 25, and MasudAhmmed, 20.

Inspector Mustafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kadomtoli police station, confirmed about the detention to the Dhaka Tribune.

The OC said both the groups locked in a clash in the afternoon over the control of power and establishment of supremacy in the area.

“On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control,” he said.

He also said some of the people sustained minor injuries in the clash.

Meanwhile, another clash took place between two groups of people at Azampur tempo and auto-rickshaw stand in Uttara over the control of the bus stand at night, leaving two people injured.

One of the injured Sayeed Ahmed, 55, was admitted to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.

The clash erupted following a quarrel between linemen Abdul Jalil and Sayeed Ahmed, who used to collect extortion money from the vehicles, said another lineman named Baharul Islam.

“At one stage, Jalil hired some other people from Azampur kitchen market and swooped on Sayeed,”said Baharul.

Uttara East Police Station Sub-Inspector Nur-e-Alam said forces were sent to the spot to avert further clashes.
