Two Bangladeshis have been killed after being caught in crossfire while travelling to Bengazi on Friday.
The deceased were identified as Abdul Kalam who hailed from the Barguna district and Shafiqur Rahman, whohailed from the Pirojpur district. They worked for a company named Sharikat Kazi in Bengazi as cleaners 1200 kilometers away from Tripoli.
Ahsan Kibria Siddiqui, first secretary to the Bangladesh Embassy in Libya confirmed the deaths to the Dhaka Tribune over phone on Saturday.
He said: “It was a holiday on Friday and they were going to Bengazi city in a Taxi cab while two rival groups have locked into a gun-fight. They accidentally got caught in the crossfire and died on the spot.
We are trying to take permission to see the dead bodies and hopefully I will visit the city on Monday,” he added.
Kibria also said he was trying to send the bodies home and to arrange compensation from the company for the victims.
The law and order situation in Libya has been deteriorated and such incidents take place at times in Libya, he added.
Around 40,000 Bangladeshis are now working in Libya.
