A multi-storey building reportedly tilted aside creating panic among its inhabitants in the capital’s Rupnagar in the afternoon.
The panicked dwellers of the building have been evacuated immediately after the tilting state was noticed, said inspector Mahbub-e-Khoda, Officer-in-Charge (OC-Investigation) of Rupnagar police station.
“We are trying to know about whether all the requirements were followed during the building construction,” he said.
Police and witnesses said the locals and residents of the four-storeyed building located on road No 20 noticed that it became tilted toward its south-western side at around 3:30pm.
One of the windows in the ground floor also got twisted for that reason, said the police.
Rupnagar police said all the dwellers of the building were evacuated along with all their valuables and furniture to avert any untoward incident.
A Canada expatriate owns the building and his caretaker could not be found since the incident was noticed.
Meanwhile, a large number of onlookers from different areas thronged the spot to witness the tilting state of the building. Additional forces have been deployed to tackle the situation and keep the building under observation.
