Narail District Sports Association, in its bid to preserve and revive the ancestral games of the country will host the five day “Rural Sports Festival” at the Narail Govt. Victoria College ground from February 25.
R.B. Group Ltd, the owner of Walton will sponsor the meet.
Narail, the birthplace of world renowned painter S.M. Sultan and the Bir Shrestha Nur Mohammed, has traditionally contributed in sports as Bangladesh pace star Mashrafe bin Mortaza leads the current pack of sports persons hailing from the district. The Narail DSA has arranged wrestling, kabaddi, horse cart race, ox fight, volleyball, ox cart race, dariabandha, boat race and traditional stick-play in the event. Narail will be celebrating its 90th birth anniversary during the festival.
At a press conference held at the conference room of the Bangabandhu National Stadium yesterday, Ashikur Rahman Miku, the general secretary of Narail DSA and A.F.M. Iqbal bin Anwar Dawn, the additional director of Walton, presented the facts to the press. Walton has provided a purse of Tk. 200,000 for the meet.
