The percentage of voter turnout in the first phase of upazila poll in 97 upazilas is 62.44%.
Public relation department of the Election Commission made the disclosure on Thursday.
A total of 62.44% voters cast their votes for the post of chairmen, vice chairmen and reserved women vice chairmen post, the EC said.
Out of 1,61,98,951 voters, a total of 1,01,13,967 cast their votes in the first phase of upazila poll held on Wednesday.
The maximum votes were cast in Nachol upazila in Chapainowabganj which is 81.62% while the lowest turnout of voter is 37.20% in Jajira upazila in Shariatpur.
The turnout of voter was 68.32% in the third upazila parishads poll in 475 upazilas held on 2009.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad said as per the primary report voter turnout was around 60-65% in the first phase of upazila poll.
Farhad Hossain, senior assistant secretary of the EC, told the Dhaka Tribune: “We have only got the final results of chairmen post from the returning officer. The commission would prepare the final list of 97 upazila poll by Sunday and the commission is likely to publish the gazette next week.”
