College girl killed in Barisal road crash

A college girl killed and another school boy critically injured in two separate road accidents in Barisal on Thursday.

ATM Mujahidul Islam, deputy police commissioner (south) Barisal Metropolitan Police, said Popy Aktar, 18, a HSC student of Nalcity College while approaching to Abdur Rob Serniabad Bridge on Kirtankhola River on foot Thursday noon, a truck hit her from backside.

She was rushed to Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital and died there at about 1:20 pm.

Popy Aktar was daughter of Taslim Uddin from Anurag village under Nalcity upazila of Jhalakathi district and her dead body handed over to family members without postmortem on request of the family.

A case was lodged in this connection and police seized the truck from Goriar Par area of the city and trying to nab the absconding truck driver, police sources said.

In another incident Imran Shikdar, 15, a SSC examinee and son of Nasir Shikdar from Dudhal Mou village under Bakerganj upazila of Barisal, injured by a bus at about 11:00 am.

Nurul Islam, Bakerganj police station in charge, a bus of Meghna Paribahon plying on Barguna-Dhaka route hit pedestrian Imran on way to returning home from private tuition at Dadur Hut area on Barisal-Patuakhali route.

Imran was rushed to Barisal SBMCH and his condition was critical till this report, told Dr. Ranbir, emergency medical officer of the hospital.

Police seized the bus, but driver managed to flee away, and a case was lodged in this connection.
