Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina emphasised the importance of realistic education and training programmes for the Bangladesh armed forces in the modern world.
She made the statement while addressing a Graduation Ceremony of Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) at Mirpur Cantonment here on Wednesday, reports BSS.
The prime minister said: "The role of the armed forces has become multi-dimensional in the backdrop of the changed security scenario in the present-day world. This should be reflected realistically in their education and training programmes.”
Meanwhile, the prime minister distributed certificates among the graduating officers.
Hasina also termed the armed forces as the symbol of the country's independence and sovereignty.
She said the members the armed forces have made significant contributions in tackling natural disasters, construction of infrastructures, socio-economic development and maintaining law and order in aid of civil administration.
"Not only inside the country, members of our Armed Forces have also earned name and fame in foreign lands by their honesty, dedication and professional efficiency," she said.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, PM's Special Envoy and former president HM Ershad, MPs, ministers, PM's security advisor Major General Tarique Ahmed Siddiqui (retd), Naval Chief Vice Admiral Farid Habib and Air Chief Air Marshal Muhammad Enamul Bari, were among those present in the programme.
