A schoolgirl has been run over and at least 20 others injured when a bus lost control and plunged off a highway in Raiganj upazila, Sirajganj on Wednesday.
The dead was identified as Rabeya Khatun, 18, daughter of Golam Mostafa from Nalka union in the upazila.
A Dhaka-bound Jahangir Paribahan bus lost control and plunged off the highway west of Bangabandhu bridge around 11am, police said.
The bus ran over schoolgirl Rabeya leaving her dead on the spot, Bangabandhu bridge-adjacent police outpost in-Charge ATM Aminul Islam said.
The injured has been taken to a local hospital, he added. Police were trying to recover the bus. The dead body has been handed over to the family.
The driver and his assistant have fled.
