According to a recent data analysis report by Facebook, males in relationships are on the average 2.4 years senior to the female partners.
There is a widespread cultural phenomenon that in many opposite-sex relationships, the male partner is older than the female counterpart.
The social media site conducted the analysis on a global perspective and made the findings, anonymous Facebook data said.
Facebook found that in 67% of relationships, the male is older than the female. In 20% cases the female is older and 13% are partners of the same age.
As age increases the average age difference between partners widens, says the analysis. Since younger couples are more likely to have met in school. This school effect also is likely responsible to drag mode of the age difference toward zero; the median is 2 years and the international mean of 2.40 is affected by a much more robust tail to the right.
Interestingly, despite not having this cultural bias to deal with, the average absolute age difference between same-sex partners is larger.
