Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has asked the ministers and officials concerned to investigate and find out the individuals behind the al-Qaeda audio message.
Expressing concern, the premier said it is too embarrassing for the government.
“The ones behind the video tape must be identified soon as it may create new pressure on the government,” Hasina added.
The PM has given the directives in the cabinet meeting held at secretariat on Monday, several ministers attended the meeting told the Dhaka Tribune.
They said the premier raised the issue for discussion saying Bangladesh wants to prove that there is not a single member of al-Qaeda, an international militant organisation, in the country.
“Though the intelligent agencies of the country assured the government that there is no al-Qaeda member in the country, it must be confirmed.
If there is any presence, tough steps would be taken against them to save the government from international pressure. The government is also committed to prevent militancy,” the ministers added.
The discussion on the issue took a long time in the cabinet meeting. But, it was ended without taking any specific decision, a minister told.
