2 Shibir activists shot in 'gunbattle'

Two top activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir were shot and three policemen were injured in a “gunbattle” in Satkania upazila of Chittagong on Wednesday morning.

Injured Shibir men Rafique and Jashim were "notorious individuals" in the area with at least 15 cases of hartal violence, sabotage and murder against them.

Police raided Keutia High School field acting on a tip-off around 11am, Satkania police station Officer-in-Charge Khaled Hossain said. “The Shibir cadres opened gunfire.”

Two police constables, Shahriar and Humayun, and an Ansar VDP personal Majnu were injured, he said. “Police were compelled to reply with 15 rounds of gunfire.”

One light gun, one local-made gun and eight rounds of cartridges were recovered from the spot. The injured Shibir members were taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
