The diplomats, officials and service passport holders of Bangladesh will get visa exemption in Brazil and Cambodia.
The personalities of the two countries would also get the same facilities in Bangladesh according to two proposed agreements that were approved in the cabinet meeting for signing on Monday.
The approvals were given during the regular cabinet meeting held on Monday at secretariat with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
Cabinet Secretary M Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan briefed the media at the cabinet conference room after the meeting.
Bhuiyan said the home ministry brought the proposals for visa exemption to develop the relations between Bangladesh and the two countries.
Bangladesh has already signed the agreement of visa exemption with Cambodia. It was mandatory to ratify the agreement in the cabinet meeting. The cabinet ratified the proposal unanimously, he said.
He also added that the home ministry would sign the agreement with Brazil after consulting with the foreign ministry and thatit would be signed shortly. It will also be brought to the cabinet meeting for ratify after signing.
According to the agreements, the diplomats, officials and service passport holders of Bangladesh will get visa exemption in Braziland Cambodia during their official visit.
They would be able to visit those countries for 30 days. They will also be able to use those countries as transit for visiting any other countries. Mainly businessmen would benefit, for improving trade relations with them.
It will help the government towards developing a closer relationship with those countries, improving trade and attracting investment from those countries, the cabinet secretary added.
Bhuiyan also informed that Bangladesh has already signed such agreements with 12 other countries.
The countries are -- South Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, India, Vietnam, Myanmar, Chile, Turkey, Laos, Belarus and two other countries.
Bangladesh is also planning to sign such agreements with 11 more countries.
The cabinet has also been informed about the achievements of the Fifth SAARC Business leaders’ conclave held in India on January 15 and 16. Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed led the Bangladeshi delegation.
