A computer science graduate of Michigan State University Randy Olsen has generated a different kind of US map which showed US states with the GDP of different countries of the world.
He replaced the name of the states with the name of the countries whose GDP are approximately closer to that state’s GDP, the Business insider reports.
Some of the US states have larger size of economy than many leading countries of the world, and the map shows it in a flash.
However, he said the map was not adjusted for population size. For example, Minnesota State has a population of around 5.5 million while Nigeria has 175 million.
California had the GDP of around 2 trillion at 2012 while Canada had 1.82 trillion; he replaced the name Minnesota with Canada.
All other states name was replaced in this way.
The 2012 GDP (nominal) of the entire United States was about $16.2 trillion, which is around 20% of the gross world product (GWP) and almost double to the GDP of china, the second largest economy of world.
