3 children dead in Moghbazar fire

Three children died in the fire that gutted a rickshaw garage and a portion of the adjacent slum in capital's Moghbazar area, near Hatirjheel, on Saturday.

Fire broke out in Madhubagh's Mirbagh area around 8:15am, Fire Service and Civil Defense senior Station Officer Mohammad Ali told the Dhaka Tribune.

Ten fire fighting units brought flames under control after an hour of efforts around 9:15am, he said.

Ramna police station Officer-in-Charge Mashiur Rahman told the Dhaka Tribune that three bodies, of children, were recovered, in primary reports.

The fire had spread from the rickshaw garage to the adjacent slum. It was feared that the death toll may rise.

Locals were helping fire fighters in rescue efforts. The flames had been mostly doused; dumping works – to douse residues of the flames – were on.
