The government will soon publish a list of the martyred intellectuals who were killed by Pakistani forces and their collaborators during 1971.
The list will be published by June 30, Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque said at the parliament on Thursday.
“We are collecting names of the martyred intellectuals as the ministry currently do not have a complete list now,” he told in response to a question.
In response to another query moved by Awami League lawmaker Chhabi Biswas, the minister informed that a digital database of the freedom fighters will be available soon.
The government has undertaken a programme to create the list through a modern system, he said hoping that soon a complete list will be available.
The draft list of the database is already on the website of the liberation war ministry, he said.
"After the database is completed, freedom fighters will be given bar-coded certificates," he said. “The list will be prepared through vigilant scrutiny.”
Regarding government’s programmes for the freedom fighters, the minister said the government of Sheikh Hasina undertook several initiatives after taking office in 2009.
The programmes included increasing allowances of freedom fighters and number of beneficiaries, implementation of housing projects and others.
