The historic Lalbagh Fort (Fort Aurangabad) in the capital, popularly known as “Lalbagh Kella,” has been decorated with lighting and sound systems under a cultural affairs ministry project to attract more visitors from both home and abroad.
Lalbagh Fort is an incomplete 17th century Mughal fort complex in Dhaka. Its construction began in 1678 by Mughal Subedar Prince Muhammad Azam Shah, son of Emperor Aurangzeb, who later became Emperor himself. His successor Shaista Khan, however, did not continue the work.
The Department of Archaeology authority has already completed the decorations and other equipments are also set to inform the visitor’s details about the fort. All the preparations of the project worth around Tk2.83crore have been completed.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the project on Friday at 6pm.
Director General of the Department of Archaeology Shirin Akhtar told the Dhaka Tribune yesterday that the fort would be opened for the visitors after the inauguration programme.
She also informed that the lighting and sound system would remain open round the year except during the rainy season.
The main script of the show, which will let the visitors know details about the fort, is written by eminent poet and writer Syed Shamsul Haq.
Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor is expected to hold a press conference at 4pm today at PID conference room to present details about the project, she added.
According to officials concerned, around 40,000-50,000 visitors were visiting the fort daily and number of ticket sale was high during the weekends, adding that sale of tickets would be further increased following the inauguration of the new project.
