Exports to Turkey exceed $1 billion

Bangladesh’s export to Turkey crossed $1 billion in 2013.

The main export items were knit and non knit products, and jute yarn, said a foreign ministry press release on Wednesday.

According to Turkish Statistical Institute, Turkeys’ export to Bangladesh was $196 million in the last year.

In 2012, the two-way trade was $980 million and Bangladesh’s export was $766 million.

Turkey imposed safeguard duty on readymade garments products in 2011 and Bangladesh’s export reduced for the year and the next year.

However, due to efforts taken by Bangladesh embassy in Turkey, exports went up in last year, added the release.
