Construction worker dies in fall in city

A construction worker was killed and two others sustained severe injuries in two separate incidents after they fell down while they were working at the capital’s Pallabi and Gulshan on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Md Abdur Rashid, 21, hailed from Chapainawabganj district.

The injured workers had been fighting for their lives at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where they were undergoing treatment at critical condition.

Both the incidents happened due to working amid risk without safety measures, said police and witnesses.

Sources said Rashid, one of the construction workers fell down from a multistoried under construction building named Chowrangi at Section-12 of Mirpur under Pallabi police station where he had been placing tiles at the outside walls of the building along with other workers at around 11:00am.

He was rushed to the DMCH by other workers, but the doctors declared him dead.

Pallabi police station Sub-inspector Abu Raihan said the death of worker Rashid was just for the lack of safety measures in the building.

The body was sent to the morgue at Dhaka Medical College.

Meanwhile, two other construction workers, Md Rashed, 18, and Lal Miah, 20, also fell down from the 7th floor of another under construction building Khan Plaza on Road-11 in Gulshan-1 in the afternoon.

Both the workers fell down after the safety ropes tore down, said police and other workers.

Immediately after Rashed and Lal fell down, other workers rushed them to the DMCH at a critical condition.
