The High Court has issued a ruling, seeking explanation as to why an article of the amended Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004 will not be declared illegal.
High Court bench of Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice ABM Altaf Hossain issued the ruling on Wednesday, in response to a writ petition filed by Lawyer Eunus Ali Akond.
In the ruling, the court sought an explanation from the speaker, the cabinet secretary, the law secretary and the ACC chairman within two weeks.
The concerned article 28 (C), provisions imprisonment for any individual providing “false information” to the anti-graft watchdog.
In the petition, filed on February 3, Eunus claimed that the provision will discourage the public from giving information in fear of the punishment.
