Bablu, the prime accused in the Saiful murder case, was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with the Rapid Action Battalion personnel in the Katawabda area under Shirajganj sadar upazila early on Thursday.
Saiful Islam, youth and sport affair secretary of Awami League’s sadar upazila unit, was killed in Baitara village under sadar upazila last December.
Shirajganj sadar police station Office-in-Charge Mohammad Habibur Rahman told the Dhaka Tribune: “Acting on a tip off, RAB personnel conducted a drive in Katawabda area around 2am.”
“Sensing their presence, Bablu opened fire on the RAB personnel,” he said.
RAB fired in retaliation and triggered the ‘gunfight’.
Later, he was found dead on the spot.
Meanwhile, RAB recovered a shutter gun, a revolver and sharp weapons from the area.
