Refrain from spreading rumor, Inu to media

Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu on Wednesday asked the mass media workers to refrain from spreading rumors saying that publishing false reports and making unnecessary crisis in inter-state affairs though write ups were the biggest challenge for the media.

He said: “Militancy, subversive activities, communalism and provocative media reports are interrelated with each other.

Those, who are not ready to join the democratic club by shunning the path of militancy and communalism, will have to resign from the politics,” he added.

The minister made the statement while addressing the bi-annual general meeting of Dhaka Journalists Union at the National Press Club on Wednesday afternoon.

Describing the country’s mass media as a dynamic one, he said: “The present government always shows respect towards constructive criticism. We believe that our country will move forward towards democracy with the help of mass media.”

He said: “The information ministry is directly related with the mass media and ready to extend every possible support.”

Mentioning about the responsible role of the mass media, he said: “The mass media is responsible for protecting the security women and children, people, society and the country apart from conducting its regular work independently.”

The minister also expressed his dissatisfaction over the “slow trial process” of journalist couple Sagar-Runi murder case and hoped that the legal proceedings in this regard would be completed soon.
