Chinese Ambassador in Dhaka Li Jun has given emphasis on setting up a separate economic zone comprising of Bangladesh, China, India and Myanmar, BCIM, to strengthen regional economic development.
He said: “Formation of a separate economic zone BCIM is now a necessity of the time. It would play a vital role to strengthen the economic development of the region.”
The Chinese envoy made the remark while holding a meeting with Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon at his secretariat office on Wednesday afternoon.
Appreciating the initiative of the government to prevent terrorism and militancy, the diplomat also said: “Militancy is a big threat for development of a country. It might be a threat for a region also. China dislikes militancy and terrorism. China will help Bangladesh in this regard.
It is necessary to prevent militancy and political unrest to protect the development. Dialogue is the only solution to reduce political unrest. So, the two major party leaders should seat for a dialogue as soon as possible,” he added.
Terming Bangladesh as a suitable country for investment, the envoy said: “Bangladesh is a country of huge potentiality. It is also a suitable country for Chinese investment. Bangladesh achieved much progress during the last five years."
China would continue its support to ensure sustainable development of Bangladesh during this tenure of the government, he assured.
