A suspected mugger was shot by police in the capital's Sayedabad area in the early hours of Wednesday during an attempted onslaught on a pedestrian.
Mokbul Hossain, 50, a criminal by profession, was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital under police custody, police said.
When the gang was mugging a pedestrian near Sayedabad Railway line around 1:30am, police opened fire, local police Sub Inspector Rabiul said.
Earlier on January 20, another suspected Mugger Abdur Raouf, 30, was shot when police opened fire in Boubazar area of Jatrabari.
On Wednesday morning, a mugger succumbed to similar injuries at a Dhaka hospital.
