One killed in Jessore ‘gunfight’

An alleged leader of terrorist outfit ‘Mejbah Bahini’ has been killed in a ‘gunfight’ with members of the joint forces at Magura village in Abhaynagar upazila early on Tuesday, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Robiul Islam, second-in-command of ‘Mejbah Bahini’ and son of Abdur Rab of the village.

After, being tipped-off that a gang of terrorists was holding a clandestine meeting at Magura village, a team of the joint forces conducted a raid in the area around 1:45am, said Khabir Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Abhaynagar police station.

However, sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the gang members opened fire on them and forced them to retaliate, triggering a ‘gunfight’.

At one stage, Robiul was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while his accomplices fled the scene.

Police recovered the body and sent it to Jessore Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
