Three policemen were shot by suspected human traffickers in the Katabania area of Sabrang union in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar, on Sunday.
Teknaf police station Officer-in-Charge Didarul Ferdous confirmed the incident to the Dhaka Tribune.
The injured police personnel are ASI Md Nurunnabi, SI Nayan Barua and Constable Afzal. They were admitted to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital.
The shooting took place when police went on a drive to arrest the traffickers who were making preparations to illegally send people to Malaysia.
During the drive, police arrested Md Foyez, 28, son of Azizur Rahman. At the time, Foyez hit one police member with a rod, leaving him injured.
Foyez is accused of a murder and two trafficking cases.
The policemen were shot while they were returning to the police station with Foyez, said Didarul.
A case is underway in this connection.
