3 more devotees die at Ijtema

Three devotees died on the Bishwa Ijtema grounds due to cardiac arrest on Saturday midnight.

Tongi police station Officer-in-Charge Ismail Hossain confirmed of the deaths.

The deceased are Siraj Mia, 50, Samir Uddin, 75, and Kashem Ali, 57.

The death toll of devotees at Ijtema rises to nine.

Earlier, six devotees including a Yemeni national died at Bishwa Ijtema because of old age complications and cardiac arrest on Saturday and Friday.

The Akheri Munajat (final prayer) of the first phase of Bishwa Ijtema will be held on Sunday.

Noted Islamic Scholar Maulana Jubayerul Hassan from Delhi will conduct the prayers to be held between 12:30pm and 1pm.

Braving the chilly, windy weather, thousands of Muslims gathered on bank of Turag River in Tongi to seek the blessings of Allah for the success of the assembly.
