Businessmen for weekly holidays on Sat, Sun

Business leaders suggested the government to make Saturday and Sunday the days for weekly holidays to synchronise with global trading partners.

The move will facilitate trade, commerce, business and economic activities of the country, the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industries said.

The suggestion was made at a meeting with Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu in the secretariat on Thursday, an information ministry handout said.

MCCI also urged the government to make a provision to allow political programmes during the weekly holidays to maintain the pace of industiralisation.

The minister assured businessmen that the government will continue to work for sustaining the course by creating an industry-friendly atmosphere.

He assured of uninterrupted power and electricity supply and suggested business leaders to work for biasing public opinion in favour for their demands.

MCCI President Rokeya Afzal Rahman, Vice President Anis A Khan, General Secretary Golam Mainuddin, and members GM Jaynal Abedin and the industries secretary were present in the meeting.
