The second phase upazila elections will be held in 117 upazilas on February 27, Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad announced on Thursday.
He made the announcement while talking to journalists at the EC office on Thursday afternoon.
The last date of filing nomination papers is February 2. The papers will be scrutinised by February 4. The last day of nomination withdrawal is February 11.
Earlier in the day, the EC has asked for the deployment of the army for five days during the upazila parishad elections.
The commission made the demand during a meeting with the law enforcers at the EC secretariat in the afternoon.
However, the commission has sat in another meeting amongst themselves to make a final decision on the matter.
On January 19, the EC announced that the first phase of elections to 102 upazila parishads out of the total 487 will be held on February 19.
The upazila parishad poll will be held in three phases – the third phase is likely to be held in May.
According to the schedule, the last date of filing nomination paper is January 25. The nomination papers will be scrutinised on January 27 while the last date of withdrawing nomination is February 3.
The third phase of polls, with the remaining upazilas, may occur sometime in the third week of May, Election Commissioner Shah Newaz told the journalists earlier.
He said: "In deciding election dates, the commission is keeping in mind the dates of SSC examinations so that students do not run into snags resulting from a schedule clash."
According to the electoral laws, polls to the upazila parishads must be held within 180 days before their terms expire. The five-year term starts with the first meeting of the respective upazila parishad.
In the last upazila parishad polls held in 2009, Awami League-backed candidates won a landslide victory by bagging around 400 posts of chairpersons.
