Minister: Rajuk to house Purbachal victims

Victims of Purbachal New Town will be rehabilitated in buildings constructed in the project premises, Housing Minister Mosharraf Hossain said on Tuesday.

Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) will build high-rise buildings in the area which will accommodate 62,000 residents, he said.

The minister made the remarks while visiting the progress of the construction works of the bridges and roads linking Dhaka to Purbachal New Town.

The minister assured that all the victims of the project will come under the rehabilitation project. “Many have already been rehabilitated.”

“Construction of this project will be finished within five years. The government laid emphasis on environment protection during construction,” the minister said.

“The water bodies inside the project area will be protected,” he said.

Housing Ministry Senior Information Officer SM GolamKibria informed that the forest areas will be protected and new forestation programmes will be undertaken.

The minister visited the six-kilometre under construction road between Madani Avenue and the eastern region of the Balu river.
