The home ministry asked the divisional commissioners to take immediate actions against the perpetrators of the recent attacks on minority communities across the country.
The directive came from a regular meeting with the divisional commissioners of the seven divisions, held at the conference room in the ministry on Sunday afternoon.
Home Secretary CQK Mustaq Ahmed also made a call to remain vigilant so that such incidents of violence do not happen further.
On January 9, the government made the decision to form a special tribunal to deal with the post-election violence, especially that inflicted upon religious minorities in various districts.
The home ministry made the decision in a meeting with Home Secretary CQK Mustaq Ahmed in the chair.
Following the meeting, the home ministry sent a letter to the law ministry asking for arrangements to be made for the constitution of a special tribunal, to be named “the special tribunal to check crimes committed on the minorities.”
The home ministry also ordered the authorities concerned, at the divisional and district headquarters, to urgently send certified copies of the first information reports (FIR), charge sheets and other documents relating to the attacks on minorities – which have included killings, rapes, torture, arson, lootings and land thefts.
These documents will be scrutinised first, and then used to consider whether some of the cases filed in connection with the attacks can be transferred to the Speedy Trial Tribunals.
