The High Court on Sunday directed the authority concerned not to show the detained five leaders of BNP arrested in new cases without proper legal procedures.
The bench of Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice Md Habibul Gani passed the order in response to writ petitions lodged for the five leaders.
The leaders are BNP Standing Committee members Moudud Ahmed, MK Anwar, Rafiqul Islam Mia, BNP chairperson’s special aide Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas and Sardar Sakhawat Hossain.
The court in its order stated that these leaders cannot be shown arrested in any more cases. However, they can be arrested if lawsuits are lodged specifically against them.
The writ petitions were filed by families of the leaders over concerns that these BNP leaders might be shown arrested in other cases.
These leaders were nabbed in December last year and later shown arrested in cases regarding recent violence of BNP-sponsored agitation.
