Miscreants shot dead a local Awami League leader in broad daylight in Hajipara area of Singra upazila, Natore around midday on Saturday.
The dead was Fazlar Rahman Fanu, the Union Parishad chiarman of Kalam area and a member of the Singra upazila unit Awami League.
Fazlar Rahman was attacked around 11:45am while returning from a reception ceremony of newly-elected Member of Parliament Junaid Ahmed, affiliates said.
He died after taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, Awami League's upazila vice chairman and Kalam municipality unit President Shafiqul Islam Shafique said.
Singra police station Officer-in-Charge Shafiqul Islam confirmed the death. “A bloody knife has been recovered from the spot wehre Fazlar Rahman was attacked.”
The motive behind the killing could not be obtained immediately.
