Law enforcers sealed off the press and arrested three journalists of Bengali daily Inqilab on Thursday following a fabricated report published in the newspaper.
Detectives raided Inqilab office and attached three computers and sealed off the daily's press in the night after a case was filed against their officials over this matter.
News Editor Rabiulla Robi, deputy Chief Reporter Rafiq Mohammad and reporter Ahmmed Atiq were detained, east division Detective Police Deputy Commissioner Jahangir Hossain Matubbor told the Dhaka Tribune.
The case was filed against publisher, editor, chief news editor and a reporter under Information and Communication Technology Act with Wari police.
“Reporter Atiq was arrested for the making of the news. Robi and Rafiq were arrested for helping in the making,” DC Jahangir Hossain told the Dhaka Tribune.
In response to a query, the official said law enforcers are looking for the editor and chief news editor. “We searched the office, but they were not found.”
A report regarding presence of Indian military inside Bangladesh territory was published in the daily, what was slammed by the foreign ministry as fabricated and baseless.
Indian forces are deployed to resist movements favouring reinstatement of the caretaker provision with approval of the prime minister and foreign ministry, the report reads.
