Vote counting in 7 seats underway

The candidates of five constituencies out of seven were unofficially declared winners on Thursday.

Awami League backed candidates Lion M Awal, secretary general of Tarikat Federation, Dr Yunus Ali Sarkar, Manzurul Islam Liton won the constituencies of Lakshmipur 1, Gaibandha 3 and Gaibandha 1 respectively, according to unofficial results.

Jatiya Party-backed candidate Advocate Altaf Ali and Independent candidate Abul Kalam Azad were unofficially declared winners of Bogra-7 and Gaibandha 4 constituencies respectively.

Vote counting in Dinajpur 4 and Jessore 5 constituencies is underway.

The polling in Gaibandha 1, 3 and 4, Dinajpur 4, Bogra 7, Jessore 5 and Lakshmipur 1 constituencies was held on Thursday.

Voting started at 8am and ended at 4pm without any break.

Lakshmipur-1:

Awami League-backed candidate Lion M Awal, secretary general of Tarikat Federation, won Lakshmipur-1 constituency, according to unofficial results.

Awal got 49,918 votes while independent candidate Shafiqul Islam got 21,660 votes.

Gaibandha-3 (Palashbari-Sadullapur):

Awami League backed candidate Dr Yunus Ali Sarkar was unofficially declared winner of Gaibandha 3 constituency.

Dr Yunus Ali Sarkar got 1,27,563 votes while independent candidate SM Khademul Islam Khudi got 18,204 votes.

Gaibandha-1 (Sundarganj):

According to unofficial results, Awami League-backed candidate Manzurul Islam Liton won Gaibandha 1 constituency.

Liton got 1,18,152 votes while his nearest contestant Dr Col (retd) Abdul Kader Khan of Jatiya Party bagged 13,044 votes.

Gaibandha-4 (Gobindaganj):

Independent candidate Abul Kalam Azad won the constituency of Gaibandha 4, says the unofficial results.

Abul Kalam Azad got 98,546 votes while his nearest contestant Awami League candidate Engineer Manwar Hossain got 64,614 votes.

Bogra-7:

Jatiya Party-backed candidate Advocate Altaf Ali was unofficially declared winner of Bogra-7 constituency.

Altaf got 17,859 votes while his nearest candidate Aminul Islam Sarkar (JP-Manju) bagged 10,098 votes.

Jessore-5:

Awami League rebel candidate Swapan Bhattachariya bagged 73,187 votes while his only rival Khan Tipu Sultan got 54,695 votes at 117 polling centres out of 122 centres, according to the district election control room.

Mostafizur Rahman, returning officer and also deputy commissioner, Jessore Thursday told journalists that casting percentage of votes is 58 in postponed 60 polling centres.

On January 5, Khan Tipu Sultan got 30,531 votes while Swapan bagged 18, 331 votes in 62 centres.
