Road crash kills 3 in capital

Three people, including a couple, were killed and a child was injured in a collision between a bus and a battery-run easy-bike in the capital’s Shonir Akhra area under Jatrabari police station on Tuesday afternoon.

One of the deceased was identified as Md Khalilur Rahman, 45, his wife Azmeri, 35 and Maya.

Confirming the deaths, Jatrabari police station Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) Aboni Shankar Kor said the injured child, who is physically challenged, was admitted to a local hospital while the bodies were kept in the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue.

Pedestrian Md Rana, who rushed the injured passengers to the DMCH, said the incident took place around 12pm when the Sayedabad bound bus of Haji Hafiz Uddin Paribahan collided with the easy-bike on the Dhaka-Sonapur route near Shonir Akhra over-bridge.

Witnesses said the three victims skidded off the easy-bike when the bus hit it.

Locals took them to DMCH, where the victims were declared dead around 12:30pm.

The OC said the bus involved in the accident was seized but its driver and his helper fled the scene.

“We are trying to identify the victims and trace their family members and arrest the bus driver,” he said.
