Law enforcers will come down hard regarding attack on Hindu minorities, Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed said on Saturday.
He made the comment after holding a meeting with authorities of the law enforcing agencies and the returning officers of the re-polling constituencies.
“A big party did not participate in the polls and announced to resist the elections. This has led to violent consequences,” he told reporters.
“Despite such, we successfully carried out the 10th parliamentary elections apart from a few stray incidents.”
But, strict security measures will be taken in the re-polls of the eight constituencies that will take place on January 16, the CEC said.
High-ups from Bangladesh Army, Border Guard Bangladesh, Rapid Action Battalion and the police administration were present.
