Army deployment till Jan 17 in 8 seats

The Election Commission has decided to keep the army deployed in the eight suspended constituencies till January 17.

The information was disclosed during a press release issued by the Inter Service Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) on Friday.

According to the press release, the army will be kept deployed as Striking Force in the constituencies which are to go under re-polling on January 16.

The decision was made in order to insure security during the re-polling in the areas.

Law enforcers will also remain deployed in the areas during the re-polling.

The Election Commission, in a letter, had asked the ISPR to keep the army deployed in those constituencies which are to witness re-polling.

On Monday, Election Commissioner Md Shah Nawaz declared that re-polling on the eight suspended constituencies will be held on January 16.

Earlier, the Election Commission had suspended voting in Dinajpur 4, Kurigram 4, Gaibandha 1, Gaibandha 3, Gaibandha 4, Bogra 7, Jessore 5 and Lakshmipur 1 constituencies.
