MPs to take oath at 10am

The newly elected lawmakers of the 10th parliament will be sworn in on Thursday.

The swearing-in ceremony will take place at 10am at Parliament, Joynal Abedin, public relations director at the  Parliament Secretariat, told the Dhaka Tribune.

Customarily, the swearing-in ceremony of the lawmakers takes place within three days after the publication of the gazette.

The gazette for 10th parliamentary elections has been published on Wednesday.

The gazette has been published with the election results pending in eight constituencies. Elections in these seats have been rescheduled for January 16.

Awami League won the 10th parliamentary elections in a landslide majority, bagging 127 constituencies uncontested.

A total of 153 contestants have been elected unopposed for the 10th parliament.

BNP, main opposition in the 9th parliament and arch-rival of the ruling Awami League, boycotted the 10th polls. The party demanded the polls should be held under a neutral, non-parity government.
